Book Summary

From the depths of the Indian Ocean, a horrific plague has arisen to devastate humankind—unknown, unstoppable . . . and merely a harbinger of the doom that is to follow.

Operatives of the shadowy covert organization Sigma Force, Dr. Lisa Cummings and Monk Kokkalis search for answers to the bizarre affliction aboard a cruise liner transformed into a makeshift hospital. But a sudden and savage attack by terrorist hijackers turns the mercy ship into a floating bio-weapons lab.

Time is an enemy as a worldwide pandemic grows rapidly out of control. As the seconds tick closer to doomsday, Sigma’s commander, Gray Pierce, must join forces with the beautiful assassin who tried to kill him—following the trail of the most fabled explorer in history into the terrifying heart of an astonishing mystery buried deep in antiquity and in humanity’s genetic code.

Book Opinions

  • Plot too convoluted and unbelievable....

This is the second novel of James Rollins (or is it Jim Czajkowski) that I've read. In a number of ways the story lines remind me of the Devils and Demons films. And maybe it's just me, but the plot, and their associated cast of characters are even more difficult to follow. At the end, I still wasn't sure if the Guild are the really bad guys, or some of them are the good guys, too. I downloaded the third book in this set, but will put it aside and read it later - perhaps.
  • A fun read!

As I plowed through this book I thought to myself this is my favorite sigma series book so far...then I hit the last hundred pages and it seemed to stretch its believability a little bit much for me. Although in the afterward he sates what was based on fact and what was fiction there was a lot more fact here than I thought. I would rate this just below Black Order and just above Sandstorm. I'd give it 3 1/2 if they'd let me.
  • Great story

Easily the best of the Sigma Force series that I've read so far.

Familiar characters, but a new great adventure. Be swept away by the fast paced action and drama, but learn the lesson that humans are not the most powerful force on this is the planet itself.
